Kitchener Condo Water Softener

Interpump was asked to assist with the selection of a large commercial softener system for a new 26 story condo development through Momentum Developments and the Zehr Group of Companies in Kitchener Ontario. The municipal water supply in the city of Kitchener is primarily hard groundwater that needs to be treated. Failure to treat the groundwater will negatively affect the building’s plumbing systems and cause water heater or boiler failure, problems with cooling towers or other equipment.

Nelco Mechanical contacted Interpump to provide a water treatment solution to remove the 35 grains of hardness from the municipal water coming into the building.

Interpump engineers worked closely with Nelco Mechanical to select and size a water softener. A duplex meter controlled unit was necessary to meet the operational demands. The design also needed to consider the existing space restrictions as well as the number of backwashes per day particularly during high demand conditions.

Considering all above requirements, Interpump recommended a 600,000gr Capacity Meter Initiated Duplex Water Softener (at 15lbs/CuFt Salt Usage, or 300lbs salt used per Backwash) that can accommodate up to a peak flow of 270 GPM and features electronic meter-initiated regeneration. The duplex unit configuration allows for one unit to be in service while the other is in regeneration or on standby.

As part of the supply contract Interpump will also provide site assistance during the softener start-up and commissioning.

The installation is scheduled for 2021.
